5 Minutes with HR Specialist Cynthia Villoria

16. June 2021
5 Minutes with HR Specialist Cynthia Villoria

Today, we're getting to know our sporting ace a little better – Cynthia Villoria. This spring she started her job as HR Specialist with us in the Coopers back office. There's always so much to do there, so we're really glad she took the time to do this interview.

Cynthia, you haven't been with Coopers all that long. Before joining our team, you also worked at a staffing agency. How did you get into this industry?
That was a funny coincidence. At the time, I wanted to be placed by an agency. They saw my profile, had a vacancy in my field themselves and instead of placing me, they offered me a job internally. That was 10 years ago now, and since then I have remained loyal to the recruiting industry, with a few exceptions.

And how did you then come to us, to Coopers?
We have got to thank Claudia for that – a big thank you at this point, dear Claudia. She contacted me via LinkedIn. Actually, I never responded to such requests, but with her it was different, and my interest was triggered. I had a good look at the homepage, the blog et cetera, talked to Claudia on the phone and eventually, I could really identify well with the company values. That was the deciding factor for me to accept the offer.

Great job from Claudia! What do you particularly like about your job here at Coopers?
Because of the pandemic, I started my new job working from home, but nevertheless I absolutely feel integrated. We are such a young, uncomplicated team and work on a basis of trust. That is really nice. It is a togetherness instead of a constant competition; we're all pulling in the same direction. That's not what I've experienced in previous positions. What's more, I can develop further here.

In what way?
Although I haven't been with the company that long, I've already been able to help develop and adapt processes. I feel the value of my input and it feels cool to be able to make a difference, to move things.

Moving is a great keyword. You're constantly on the move, teaching sports classes on top of your 100% position. How do you balance it all?
I love sports and work out every day. Twice a week I give classes over my lunch break and otherwise in the evenings. That is one of the reasons why I value the flexibility here at Coopers so much.
The only thing I don't have much time for currently, is my personal training. But soon I will be on vacation.

Does that mean that sport is also on the daily schedule during your vacation?
Absolutely! It's a must that the hotel has a fitness area (laughs). For me, that's an essential part of switching off.

Do you have any vacations planned for this summer?
Yes! I'm going to Ibiza with a friend of mine. Actually, I go there every year. After not being able to in 2020, I am looking forward to it even more. I love the atmosphere and lifestyle there.
Also, I am keeping my fingers crossed for a long-haul trip at the end of the year.

Where would you like to travel to?
There are so many beautiful places. I like Thailand very much. And South America is on my list. I've been to Mexico before, but Costa Rica really appeals to me. I really enjoy traveling.

Traditionally, we end our "5 minutes with" interviews with a few unconventional questions. Are you ready?

Mac or PC?
Mac.

My favorite app is...
Zalando and H&M are probably the most used apps on my phone.

Whom should we follow on Instagram?
Coopers.

What three things would you take to a desert island?
A packed gym bag, my camera, and a dear friend.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?
I'm sure I have several, but they're secret.

Please finish this sentence: "I love working in HR because..."
...it's a very diverse field of work.

Thanks for the interview and your time, Cynthia!
