The 5 best Ski Resorts in Switzerland
Is there anything more fun than racing down a ski slope on a sunny day and relaxing in a snow bar whilst the sun beams warm your cheeks? There are so many amazing ski resorts in Switzerland that it sometimes difficult to decide where to go. We want to help you choose, so we have presented our favourite ski resorts in Switzerland here.
Davos
Davos is a paradise for snowboarders. Snowboarders and free skiers enjoy going crazy in the fun park on the Jakobshorn. The World Snowboarding Guide gave Davos 10 out of 10 points in a recent rating.
Nobody will get bored in Davos. If you don't ski or snowboard there is plenty of opportunity to go sledging, snowshoe hiking or other activities. And once the sun sets there are many hip bars, restaurants and party locations in the village.
Adelboden
Have you ever watched a ski race on Swiss TV? Then you may be familiar with the famous „Chuenisbärgli" in Adelboden. The Ski World Cup takes place there at the beginning of January and there is always an amazing atmosphere amongst the fans watching the races at the side of the slope.
Apart from this Adelboden is a quieter ski resort. It is situated in the Bernese mountains and is ideal for grown-ups and children, for beginners and advanced skiers. There is even an igloo on the Engstligenalp where you can have a candle light fondue dinner.
Laax
Laax has the most slopes that lie between 2000 and 3000 meters. So if it is a ski season with little snow, Laax is your safest bet. It has more than four snow parks, which makes it a popular place for snowboarders. If you have kids, they can go to the Ami Sabi Winterwonderland where they will learn to ski and find out a lot about the woods, the animals and the mountains too.
Grindelwald
If you want to show your visitors how beautiful the Swiss mountain scenery is as well as going skiing, then Grindelwald is the place to go. Whilst sitting on the ski lifts you can get breath taking views of the Eiger. The length of the two ski resorts „First" and „Kleine Scheidegg – Männlichen – Wengen" amount to around 100 miles in total and the highest slope lies at 2500m above sea level. The most impressive slope of that region is without doubt the so-called „Lauberhornabfahrt" in Wengen, where they also have ski races.
Grindelwald features one of the longest sledging runs in the Alps. It runs from the Faulhorn into the valley and is 9 miles long. There are lots of hiking routes where you get spectacular views of the four-thousand-meter high peaks and impressive glaciers. There is a train which takes you from Grindelwald up to the famous „Top of Europe" viewpoint on the Jungfraujoch which lies at 3454 meters over sea level.
Flumserberge
Flumserberge lies between Zürich and Chur. It has modern ski lifts and the new snow machines ensure that you won't be skiing on any grassy patches! You can go carving, skiing, snowboarding, sledging or hiking in Flumserberge and they even offer husky tours. The guides give their guests an insight into the world of the huskies and explain how to steer the sledges. Don't be surprised if you see groups of Schlager music fans at Flumserberge too, they have lots of events there in winter.
Whether it's a husky tour, a fondue in an igloo or snowboarding on the Jakobshorn, we hope you will find a ski resort, where you will have a great time with your family and friends.
Have fun!
