“Strategy is about execution”

Michael Wiendl, experienced Senior Executive with expertise in Finance, M&A and strategic corporate management, in conversation about how he came to Coopers and what convinced him to take on the role as Board Member.

Coopers: Michael, how did you first come across Coopers?
Michael Wiendl (MW): First as a candidate. I got in touch with Christian through my network, and shortly after we had an initial conversation. At that point, we were already discussing strategic considerations around the merger with iET, which I eventually supported as an advisor. Since then, we have stayed in regular contact.

What convinced you to join the Coopers Board of Directors?
MW: It is a wonderfully run company. Christian and Denise have truly built something special. That was the main reason. At Coopers, you work with people you genuinely enjoy collaborating with and want to support.

What specifically sets Coopers apart in your view?
MW: The culture. The team is given a great deal of trust and is empowered to take ownership. Christian and Denise lead in a modern and strategic way. That sets Coopers apart from many companies of a similar size in Switzerland. Both externally and internally, values like humanity, connection, and the transfer of responsibility are front and center. Keeping that human element in focus is, to me, just as much a part of the strategy as any external growth consideration. And it is precisely that strong team culture that has enabled Coopers' impressive growth.

Where do you see the biggest topics for Coopers in the coming years?
MW: Three things are on my mind. First: how does the core business continue to grow? Second: AI will become a significant factor in recruiting as well, and far more than just a buzzword. And third: which additional areas can be developed? There is quite a bit we are looking at.

Do you have a motto that has guided you throughout your career?
MW: Strategy is about execution. Filling a sheet of paper is easy. But putting it into action, that is the exciting part. That is exactly what fascinates me, and exactly what I am looking forward to.
